Open to the Sky: Inside the Bones of a Forgotten Building

Distressed building in Jarrell, TexasStanding inside the roofless shell of a long abandoned commercial building, the sky opens up above like a natural skylight framed by crumbling brick walls. The interior corridor stretches toward a partially intact garage style doorway at the far end, beyond which trees and daylight hint at the street outside. The right wall is a study in layered decay, with peeling plaster revealing the warm red brick beneath, while ferns and weeds push their way up through the debris covered floor with quiet determination. Discarded tires, broken lumber, twisted metal, and scattered refuse litter the ground, painting a picture of years of neglect and abandonment. A single surviving roof beam crosses the frame overhead, a lone remnant of the structure this building once was. Despite the ruin, there is an undeniable beauty here, a raw and honest kind of architecture that only time and nature can create together. This image is a companion to the exterior shot of the same building, and together they tell the full story of a small town structure returning, piece by piece, to the earth.
